Homework
Each week, I will list homework assignments and due dates on this page. All routine homework is due the day after it is assigned. I will also post reminders about upcoming tests and deadlines for work on this page. Students should spend 25 to 30 minutes per night on science homework, Monday thru Thursday.

Problem Solving tips for the electronic text book. Make sure you open the left top tab "contents" so you can see and select the chapter you need. There is a yellow bar across the top of the page that will give you error messages. On the right side of that bar select the "options" tab to see what to do to address the error. Make sure your adobe flash is activated. The best browsers to use with the textbook are Firefox and Google Chrome. More recent versions work best. If your laptop isn't working with the touch pad feature, try it with a mouse instead. If you cant see the pictures on line, try exiting the site and logging back in.

Welcome back! We will be wrapping up chemistry and starting on our disease unit this month. Some students have not handed in the test review packets and climate change projects from last quarter. I am accepting these until Monday. Feb 4. Please get them done. Report cards will be sent home Friday!

Thurs: Revise your climate change project. Revisions are due by Mon. "Reshare" your google doc with me by Monday.
Fri: Check Powerschool. Make up missing work. Chemistry review packets will not be accepted after Monday.

Remember to return your permission slip so I can post your climate change project on our website.
All project revisions should be complete by this Thursday, unless you and I have discussed something else. Those of you who submitted late projects over the weekend may need more time once I provide you with my editing.
We are starting disease projects on Tuesday. Each student will research 11 diseases and answer 9 questions about each disease. Each answer should be one sentence. We will work on this during class this week. If you dont finish by Friday, finish this over the weekend. It is due Monday.

Week of Feb 18
We will have a disease quiz on Wednesday. The deadline for Ch 11 work is Wednesday before the quiz. Vocabulary flashcards and the Quiz Review sheet are also due Wed before the quiz. The last day to hand in a disease project for partial credit it Friday Feb 22
Mon: Finish the disease quiz review sheet. Define each word while paying attention to the paired word. These are words that kids ofen confuse on tests. Also study your flash card words. As you learn a word, remove it from the pile and continue to practice remaining words.
Tues: Study quiz review sheet and flash cards

Mark your calendars for 8th Grade STEM Night on Tuesday March 26; Students will share their Climate Change website and environmental action plans for our campus. This will include a video showing of "Straws" followed by a student and expert panel discussion of the single use plastic issue. 5pm to 7pm!!!!!

Week of March 11
Journals were due last Friday. They are now late. (-10pts). Starting Wed, I will deduct -20pts. The last day to hand in a journal is Friday.
Our 8th Grade STEM Night is Tues March 26, 5 pm to 7:15 pm. This is comparable to the 6th grade Science Fair and 7th Grade Inventors fair. Students are expected to attend. A flier with details was sent home today. Stewardship projects, our STEM field guide and our climate change websit ewill be displayed/presented in room 914 (auditorium building from 5 to 5:50 pm). At 6 pm students will show the video STRAWS ( a documentary about single use plastics). This will be followed by a panel discussion of experts and students. Please plan to attend. We hope they will bring parents and siblings so we have an audience to listen and learn.
Our evolution test is open note (not open book). Make sure you are completing all your Ch 8 homework and current events so you can use them during the test.

Week of March 18
Our evolution test is open note (not open book). Make sure you are completing all your Ch 8 homework and current events so you can use them during the test next week. Our online text book is working again. I am sorry for the inconvenience last week. If you are behind on notes, get caught up.

Friday March 22
Finish your geologic timeline over the weekend. The grading rubric is on the handouts tab of this website if you need it. The time line is due on Thursday March 28 when you take your evolution test. It is a major grade. Make up Ch 8 homework if you are behind.
Evolution test: If you are absent on Thurs or Friday, you will have to make up the test the day we track back in in April.
Part 1: Thurs March 28 - Open note: you may use your timeline and Ch 8 notes during the test. Before the test, highlight vocabulary words in your notes so you can find them easily during the test. You may not use any information you have photocopied during the test. You may not use phones during the test.
Part 2: Friday March 29: You may use your video notes during this test. No phones, no photocopies.
Homework Week of March 25
There is no new homework this week. Evolution Test Part 1 is Thursday. It is open note. Open note means any work that is done in your own hand writing. No books, phones, or internet materials can be used. Part 2 of the test is Friday (video notes). The geologic timeline is due Thursday. If you are absent for either of these tests, you will have to take them the day we track back in.
Mon: Finish your timeline and make up any incomplete Ch 8 notes
Tues: STEM Night in the Auditorium from 5 to 7:15. If you cant attend, there is an alternate assignment.
Wed: Organize your Chapter 8 homework in order. Highlight vocabulary words so you can find them quickly. Review your notes and timeline. Your timeline is due right after the test.
Thurs: Highlight your video notes so you can find information quickly during the test.
Fri: Have a wonderful track out!!!
4th Quarter
Wow! I can't believe its 4th quarter! The year has flown by.
We will be introducing several small units this quarter: ecology, energy use, cell biology and health. We will spend 3 to 4 weeks reviewing for our Science EOG.
Science Journal: you should already have 4 journal entries in your journal. (See list on this site.
Week of April 22
Mon: Happy Earth Day! Do something good for our planet today. Complete the skull worksheet for homework. We will discuss it tomorrow and link it to our evolution unit.
We will use our awesome student website for homework this week and next.
Tues: Topic- climate change - Go to the climate change page on our website. Select and read 5 of the topics that interest you. Write down the name of the topics you select and write 4 facts about teach topic. (20 facts total).
Wed: Topic - Drawdown Go to the Drawdown page on our website. Select and read 5 of the topics that interest you. Write down the name of the topics you select and write 4 facts about teach topic. (20 facts total).
Thurs: Topic - Community Efforts: Go to the community efforts page on our website. Select and read 5 of the topics that interest you. Write down the name of the topics you select and write 4 facts about teach topic. (20 facts total).
Fri: Catch up your journal or any missing work from the week. Organize your binder. Remember, we do have an EOG in a few weeks. Dont throw everything away.

Ecology Test Wednesday! Study your flash cards. Flashcards and all ecology worksheets are due on Wednesday before the test. (Ecosystem reading guide, N and C cycle, Studying populations, Interactions, Islands of Life, Deer Predation)
Mon: Finish flash cards and study. Finish all ecology worksheets.
Tues: Study flash cards for test
Wed: Select 5 topics from our climate change website page "Other Environmental Issues". Write 4 facts about each topic.
Thurs: Current event: Frogs face threats - I will provide the article.
Fri: If you are behind on your website homework assignments from the last 2 weeks, finish them. Monday is the last day to hand these in. Check Powerschool. Make up missing work.

May 24 Update
Interims were handed out today. I am still accepting Ch 10 Sec 1 and 2. Photosynthesis worksheet, Ecoflashcards and the web assignments (see HW details from week of April 28 and May 6): Other Environmental Issues and Environmental Groups. I will accept these assignments until Wed 5/30.
Journals were due today! Lots of students did not hand them in today. I will accept journals for partial credit until May 30.
May 31st 8th Grade Dance: We have not received many sign ups for donating snacks/drinks for the 8th grade dance. Please sign up asap so your children have a special evening. We are working on EOG review worksheets and packets in class. Homework this week will be to finish any sheets/packets you are behind on. You will need to borrow copies of the reading material to do this. Ask me for any reading materials you need.
